  3. Welcome to the Hornet Underground Volume 2 CDROM!
  4.  
  5. This CDROM contains intelligent multimedia art.  This art originates from a
  6. community called the PC demo scene.  A "demo", in terms of this community,
  7. refers to a program that combines music, graphics, and real-time coding
  8. effects to impress the viewer.  A very loose comparison could be made between
  9. "demos" and music videos.  There is one key distinction between the two;
  10. demos are all calculated real-time.  This means that there aren't any
  11. animations... the effects are being done on your computer _as_ you are
  12. watching them.
  13.  
  14. Several different things are necessary in order to make a demo.  You
  15. need someone to "track" a song, you need someone to paint the fonts and
  16. logos, and you need someone to actually code the effects.  It is
  17. important to know this in order to understand the structure of this
  18. CDROM.

  20. Demos are usually put together by a small group of people, each of which
  21. specializes in a different area.  So what happens when a group isn't
  22. making demo?   The members get bored.  They start to do things in their
  23. own respective areas.  The musicians write stand-alone songs.  The
  24. graphicians draw stillframe images.  The coders might write tutorials
  25. so that the next generation can learn veteran programming tips and
  26. tricks.  Meanwhile, other people are creating computer magazines
  27. (diskmags) that report about the most popular groups.

  50. Quick Start Instructions:

  52.   MSDOS Quick Start:
  53.     Change to your CDROM drive and type "view".
  54.     Example:
  55.           C:\> D:
  56.           D:\> view
  57.  
  58.   Windows 95:
  59.     Insert the cdrom into the cdrom drive.  This will automatically
  60.     start a CDROM browser program called WinView.
  61.     Alternatively, you can also install the program group and icon
  62.     by selecting the "Start" menu and choosing "Run".  At the Run
  63.     box, type: "D:\setup", assuming 'D' is your cdrom drive.

  65. Using the index.htm:
  66.  
  67. We have included index.htm files so the user may use a Web browser
  68. to view our disc.
  69.  
  70. In order to view this disc using these index.htm files, point your
  71. Web browser to the root level index.htm file.

  73. For example, in Netscape:

  75.   1. Click on "File"
  76.   2. Click on "Open File"
  77.   3. Choose your CDROM drive
  78.   4. Select the index.htm file

  80. In Internet Explorer:

  88. The index.htm files have been tested under Netscape 3.0 (Windows,
  89. Macintosh, and FreeBSD), and Internet Explorer 3.0 (Windows).

  95. To make browsing the disc easier, we have included the program WinView
  96. for Windows, and the program VIEW for MSDOS on the CDROM.  These programs
  97. allow you to page through index files, browse through directories on the
  98. CD, view documentation and uncompress/install the program(s) you want
  99. onto your hard disk.
